Despite the transformative potential of IoT to optimize processes, increase efficiency, and improve real-time monitoring, its adoption has been constrained by technical, regulatory, and structural challenges. A systematic literature review combined with the DEMATEL method, supported by industry experts, revealed that the most influential barriers were the shortage of qualified professionals, lack of regulation, and integration complexity, while interoperability and technical standards emerged as secondary consequences.
