A sílica livre cristalizada e as condições de trabalho em Santarém-PA
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015) CAVALCANTE, Clarissa Maciel; POMPEU NETO, Bernardo Borges
Silica (SiO2) is the most abundant element in the Earth's crust and, in crystalline form, is toxic to humans, potentially causing various diseases, such as silicosis, when inhaled constantly. This study aims to present the reality of environments and working conditions in marble shops in Santarém-PA, regarding the risk of acquiring silicosis. Visits were conducted in four companies in the sector, using the Reference Manual for Marble Shops, adopted by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, as a recording instrument. The results reveal the existence of artisanal work, with few employees, misinformation about the risks, and insufficient collective and individual protective measures. It is concluded that free crystalline silica dust is intensely present in marble shops in Santarém, representing imminent risks to workers' health

A Sílica Livre Cristalizada e as Condições de Trabalho em Santarém-PA
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015) CAVALCANTE, Clarissa Maciel; POMPEU NETO, Bernardo Borges
Silica (SiO₂) is one of the most abundant elements in the Earth's crust, and in its crystalline form, it is toxic to humans, potentially causing silicosis and even cancer with prolonged exposure. This study investigates working conditions in marble workshops in Santarém-PA and the risks of exposure to crystalline silica. The research involved visits to four companies in the sector, using the Ministry of Labor and Employment’s Reference Manual for Marble Workshops as an evaluation tool. The results indicate a lack of worker training and misinformation about occupational hazards. Collective protection measures, such as wet-cutting machines, are adopted but not strictly enforced. Personal protective equipment is provided but not consistently used. The study concludes that exposure to free crystalline silica in the region’s marble workshops is high and poses a significant health risk to workers. It emphasizes the need for surveillance actions and further investigations to improve working conditions and worker health protection.

Propriedades Mecânicas do Concreto Laterítico da Região do Acre
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2014) DE LUCA NETO, Luis Antonio; POMPEU NETO, Bernardo Borges
The present work deals with the investigation of the properties of concrete made with aggregate of laterite, from the vicinity of Rio Branco in Acre. This study is of particular importance to the Acre region, given the abundant occurrence of this material and the scarcity of aggregate originating from bedrock. Initially addressing the characteristics of laterite, occurrences in the country, where they are exploited, technological characterization for use in concrete. The investigation of the properties of lateritic concrete was made taking as reference the concrete made with coarse aggregate igned granite, proven quality. Among the properties investigated stand out, resistance to compression and tensile and modulus of elasticity It is concluded that the application of laterite concrete is technically feasible in current works.
