Abstract

This study investigates aspects of waste generation in Brazil and the main waste management techniques reported in the literature. The methodology comprises a literature review, using recent studies to expose the current Brazilian scenario and widely used waste management strategies. The results indicate that Brazil generates around 216 thousand tons of waste per day, with sanitary landfills being the primary disposal method, requiring complex management and large land areas. Alternative techniques, such as incineration, bioremediation, recycling, and composting, are explored as potential solutions. The study concludes that several measures can be adopted, but they must consider the local context to ensure efficiency and cost reduction.
