Abstract

Aluminum is the second most produced metal in the world, second only to steel, but the process of reducing bauxite ore into alumina (Al2O3) requires high temperatures, making the beneficiation process expensive and generating CO2. This work proposes the reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the T6 heat treatment of AC2B (A319) aluminum alloys by adjusting the limits of the alloying elements Cu, Si, and Mg. The research demonstrated that the new proposed alloy allows for a reduction in the time and temperature of the heat treatment, resulting in a 14.6% reduction in electricity consumption and a 2.99% reduction in raw material costs, while maintaining the mechanical and thermal properties of the alloy.
