This study proposes a new growth law for monotectic alloy systems, analyzing experimental results of unidirectional solidification under transient conditions. Growth laws as a function of position and velocity were established, allowing the evaluation of factors such as gravity and solute type on microstructure formation. These low-melting temperature dispersions of elements reduce hardness and facilitate flow under sliding conditions, resulting in favorable tribological behavior. Many studies have attempted to better understand the monotectic reaction, assuming that the interphase spacing (λ) follows classical relations used for eutectics. However, some traditional growth laws have not been shown to be valid for transient heat flow conditions. This work analyzed unidirectional solidification experiments in unsteady conditions with hypomonotectic alloys Al-0.9%Pb and Al-5.5%In, in addition to the monotectic alloy Al-1.2%Pb.
