O Impacto das Estatísticas de Acidentes de Trânsito na Elaboração de Políticas Públicas
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2019) MERLIM, Eduardo Barbosa; VIEGAS, Bruno Marques; QUARESMA, João Nazareno Nonato
This work analyzes the impact of traffic accident statistics on the formulation of public policies, focusing on the expenses incurred by the Unified Health System (SUS) from 2014 to 2018. Based on historical data, the study highlights the importance of statistics for creating policies aimed at reducing accidents, especially those involving fatalities. The 2004 World Health Organization (WHO) report underscored the severity of the issue, with 1.17 million deaths and between 25 and 35 million injuries globally. The study also examines the economic and social costs of traffic accidents, with a focus on the state of Roraima, where 10,395 hospitalizations were recorded during the study period. It concludes that the implementation of effective public policies and public awareness are crucial for reducing accidents and associated costs.
