    A Brief Account of the 2030 Agenda and its Implications for Brazil and the Amazon Region in Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

    The 2030 Agenda, developed by the United Nations (UN) in 2015, includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), broken down into 169 targets and 231 indicators to be achieved by 2030. This article focuses on SDG 6, which addresses universal access to clean water and sanitation, analyzing its implementation in Brazil and the Amazon region. Data from the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA), the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) from 2016 to 2020 were examined. The results highlight the need for increased investment in water infrastructure and sanitation projects to alleviate challenges faced by the Amazonian population. The participation of multiple sectors in integrated water management is crucial to achieving SDG 6 by 2030.

    Saneamento Básico: Impactos ambientais causados pelo despejo de esgoto no Rio Negro (Amazonas-Brasil)

    The disorganized growth of urban centers, coupled with the lack of public policies and investments, causes significant environmental impacts and health risks due to failures in basic sanitation. This study assesses the impacts of untreated effluent discharge into the Rio Negro through microbiological analysis of water samples collected at different points along the Manaus waterfront and streams. The results were compared with the limits established by current legislation. The possibility of discharging untreated wastewater directly into the Rio Negro, considering the supposed self-purification capacity of the subfluvial outfall, was also analyzed. The study highlights the need to update the Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan, aiming at concrete goals for expanding access to sewage collection and treatment in the city. The findings demonstrate severe pollution in the streams and the presence of harmful microorganisms, emphasizing the urgent need for effective measures.

    The Carbon Credit Market in Amazonas as an Instrument for Change in Riverside Communities

    Initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions include the commercialization of carbon credits. This study analyzes how resources from this market can transform riverside communities in the Rio Negro Sustainable Development Reserve, Amazonas, which lack access to electricity. Using observational research and literature review, it concludes that the carbon market is promising but requires investments and community involvement.

    The Carbon Credit Market in Amazonas as an Instrument for Change in Riverside Communities

    This study analyzes the carbon credit market in the state of Amazonas as a tool for transformation in riverside communities. Focusing on the Rio Negro Sustainable Development Reserve, it explores how resources from carbon credit sales can be used to provide access to electricity, improving the quality of life for local residents. The research uses an observational approach and literature review to assess the impacts of the REDD+ program and the potential for renewable energy in communities without electricity.
