This dissertation presents a technical analysis of preventive maintenance in substations, focusing on transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches. Substations, essential for power transmission and distribution, are exposed to continuous operation under adverse conditions, leading to potential wear and failures. The study, of an applied and technical nature, is based on ABNT standards, manufacturers' manuals, and best practices from the electrical sector. The results demonstrate that preventive maintenance reduces failures, increases reliability, and extends equipment lifespan, serving as a strategic investment for the safety and efficiency of substations.

Electrical substations are essential for the transmission and distribution of energy, transforming voltage and controlling electrical flow. Operating continuously in adverse environments, their equipment is subject to wear and failure, requiring preventive actions to ensure system reliability and safety. This paper analyzes preventive maintenance in substations, focusing on transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnecting switches. The methodology included documentary and technical research based on ABNT standards, manufacturers’ manuals, and practices from the electricity sector. Specific inspection procedures, electrical tests, and complementary techniques such as thermography were applied. The results show that preventive maintenance, when applied in a technical and planned manner, reduces costs, extends equipment lifetime, and ensures the reliability and efficiency of electrical substations.
