The logistical challenges to implement the environmental management system in a natural gas company in the North Region
(Instituto de Tecnologia e Educação Galileo da Amazônia, 2022) PIRES, Darlene Ribeiro LIMA, Alexandra Amaro de; LEITE, Jandecy Cabral
The implementation of environmental management systems (EMS) in large companies aims to standardize operations and reduce environmental impacts. This study aims to develop a protocol for an EMS based on ISO 14001 standards in a natural gas company in the North Region of Brazil. The research utilized an exploratory and documentary approach with qualitative and quantitative data collected from a gas pipeline company in the Manaus region. The methodology included interviews and questionnaires with the company's environmental professionals. The results show that the logistics of the North Region represent the greatest challenge for the company, hindering the efficient implementation of the EMS. It is concluded that improving regional logistics is essential for the success of the environmental management system.

Aspect and Impact Survey in Chemistry Laboratory
(Instituto de Tecnologia e Educação Galileo da Amazônia, 2023) SILVA, Waldomiro S.; CAMPOS, Paola Souto
The growing concern with environmental management has led several institutions, including the Federal Institute of Amazonas (IFAM), to consider methodologies related to the Environmental Management System (EMS), such as ISO 14001. This study conducted a survey of environmental aspects and impacts in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory of IFAM – Campus Manaus Centro (CMC), using the interaction matrix and the FMEA method for failure analysis. The results indicated that 90% of the analyzed impacts were classified as significant risks, including failures in the exhaust system and the absence of a Waste Management Plan (WMP). The study recommends implementing a WMP, maintaining exhaust equipment, and training users to mitigate environmental impacts and health risks.

This dissertation addresses the implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory at IFAM/Campus Manaus Centro. The study emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in higher education institutions, especially in laboratories dealing with potentially hazardous chemicals. Using methodologies such as the Leopold matrix and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), the study identifies environmental impacts and proposes mitigation measures. The research concludes that implementing the EMS can significantly reduce environmental impacts, improve operational efficiency, and serve as a model for other institutions.

The implementation of the environmental management system (EMS) in large companies arise stems from the need to standardize operations and reduce environmental impacts. In addition to offering emphasis on directing a business policy establishing guidelines related to the quality system, well-being, environment, health and practices that ensure labor, technical and environmental safety. The general objective of thestudy is to work on a protocol for an environmental management system based on ISO 14001 standards in a natural gas company in the Amazonas-AM region. It is mentioned what specific objectives are: To present the logistical peculiarities of the natural gas company in the northern region of the country; Relate the SGA information and logistics system performed to carry out the SGA activities carried out in the northern region of Brazil; and Compare the SGA actions of the north region withthe northeast and southeast region of Brazil, focusing on the amazon logistics system. The monitoring data, SGA indicators used in this work were collected in a gas pipeline company in the North region, located in Manaus. In the development of this work, the methodology used consists of exploratory, documentary, with a quali-quantitative data where an survery of information about the EMS of the companies and logistics system used for the execution of the activities of EMS was carried out. The information was collected through interviews and questionnaires applied to the company's environmental professionals. It is concluded that in an internal context of the company is well strengthened, because within its processes in the value chain, there are well-structured areas such as Social Management, Environmental Management in its segments of licensing, monitoring and environmental auditing, which contribute to the guarantee of legal, contractual and international standardization requirements such as those of ISO 14001:2015. However, the work found, in a comparative analysis with other regions, that the logistics system of the region is the main challenges for the company that works with natural gas that affects organizational activities and, consequently, its EMS is affected. Therefore, it turns out that the aspect that must be immediately developing to improve the EMS is logistics.
