This dissertation investigates the applicability of a fuzzy inference system to evaluate environmental impacts on urban walkability in Manaus, Amazonas. The central problem lies in the need for precise methodologies to measure pedestrian infrastructure quality and guide sustainable public policies. The main objective of the study is to develop a fuzzy inference model capable of classifying the level of pedestrian mobility in different city zones, using the walkability indicators (iCam) from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). The methodology involved the collection of primary and secondary data, the application of walkability indicators in four city zones, and the modeling of the fuzzy system using MATLAB software. The results demonstrated that the developed model is effective in identifying areas with different levels of walkability, contributing to the formulation of public policies aimed at sustainable urban development. It is concluded that the fuzzy inference system is a useful tool for assessing urban walkability and improving the quality of life in cities.

Analysis Of Energy Efficiency And Environmental Impacts With The New Inverter Air Conditioning Technology
(Instituto de Tecnologia e Educação Galileo da Amazônia, 2023) SILVA, Wellington José de Castro da; LEITE, Jandecy Cabral
Air conditioning systems are known for their high energy consumption and the environmental impacts they can cause, especially regarding greenhouse gas emissions. However, inverter air conditioning systems are a more advanced technology that can offer significant improvements in terms of energy efficiency and reduced environmental impacts. Inverter systems use a variable speed compressor, which adjusts the compressor speed according to cooling or heating needs, reducing energy consumption and increasing system lifespan. In Brazil, where demand for air conditioning systems is high, the use of inverter systems can significantly impact energy consumption reduction and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, Brazilian authorities have implemented measures to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient technologies, such as energy efficiency labeling programs. However, the energy efficiency of these systems depends on proper installation and maintenance.

This dissertation addresses the implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory at IFAM/Campus Manaus Centro. The study emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in higher education institutions, especially in laboratories dealing with potentially hazardous chemicals. Using methodologies such as the Leopold matrix and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), the study identifies environmental impacts and proposes mitigation measures. The research concludes that implementing the EMS can significantly reduce environmental impacts, improve operational efficiency, and serve as a model for other institutions.

Air conditioning systems are known for their high energy consumption and the environmental impacts they can cause, especially with regard to greenhouse gas emissions. However, inverter air conditioning systems are a more advanced technology that can offer significant improvements in terms of energy efficiency and reduced environmental impacts. Inverter air conditioning systems use a variable speed compressor, which allows the unit to adjust the compressor speed to meet cooling or heating needs. This means that the compressor does not have to switch on and off continuously, which reduces energy consumption and increases system life. In addition, inverter air conditioning systems are designed to operate more quietly and produce less noise than conventional systems. In Brazil, where demand for air conditioning systems is high, the use of inverter air conditioning systems can have a significant impact on reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, Brazilian authorities have implemented measures to encourage the adoption of energy efficient technologies, including energy efficiency labeling programs to help consumers identify the most efficient appliances. However, it is important to remember that the energy efficiency of an inverter air conditioning system depends on its proper installation and maintenance. It is necessary that the system be sized correctly for the space in which it will be installed and that a regular maintenance program be carried out to ensure that the system is operating efficiently. In summary, the use of inverter air conditioning systems in Brazil can offer significant benefits in terms of energy efficiency and reduced environmental impacts, especially when combined with government incentive measures and proper installation and maintenance practices. It is with these awards that this project will explore the need for technological changes in refrigeration systems, proving their efficiency both in terms of energy and the environment.
