Abstract
Lightning strikes are of great importance for the electricity sector, frequently responsible for disconnections of transmission lines, which can trigger a sequence of events that may lead to the collapse of the interconnected electrical system. The objective of this work is to propose a new methodology to correct the grounding resistances of the LT Oriximiná/Silves CD 550kV electric power transmission line in the Amazon, aiming to reduce the occurrences of shutdowns caused by disruptive return discharges (backflashover) and mitigate the damages to the electrical system. Considering implementation cost factors, environmental technical feasibility, and the applicability of the solution to other line structures, it was concluded that the most adequate approach for a more robust grounding solution in the transmission line towers was the "solution 03," tested on tower 585, achieving a 66.98% reduction.
