Processo de Estabelecimento de Cultivo in vitro de Plântulas de Simaba cedron Planch. (Simaroubaceae)

Abstract

Simaba cedron, popularly known as "cedron", is largely used for fever and snake bites. Its seeds are used in the treatment of stomach problems and liver infections. The fruits are used for the treatment of pain and malaria while its bark is an antispasmodic. The species is generally propagated through seeds, but with limited success due to the low viability of the seeds. This work aimed to develop the first stage of the in vitro cultivation process of Simaba cedron seedlings, evaluating the influence of two culture media (MS and WPM) on the establishment and development of the seedlings. The results showed that the MS medium was more effective, with a multiplication rate of 8.0:1 and 75% rooting.
