Abstract

This paper discusses strategic management methods to manage asset reliability and its main obstacles. Maintenance should be understood as a key sector to consolidate a company's results and is seen as a link between the production process and the goals to be achieved. The method discussed is the creation of a management system that uses existing concepts and tools in an atypical way, where fundamental maintenance concepts merge with the company's characteristics. It is concluded that the applicability of a management program depends on specific company characteristics, and understanding these characteristics is a key factor for success.
