Efeito da transformação da microestrutura do aço ao carbono obtido por processos termoquímico a gás

Abstract

The study examined the microstructural transformation of SAE 1020 steel (low carbon) subjected to gaseous carbonitriding thermochemical treatment to enhance wear resistance in helical broaches for pocket lighters. Nitrided and carburized layers were analyzed via optical microscopy and microhardness tests, comparing approved and non-conforming samples. Results showed that ferric nitride presence significantly increased surface hardness, with diffusion layers of 0.14 µm to 0.47 µm (nitrides) and 1.43 µm to 2.76 µm (carbides), complying with NBR NM 136 standards. The process proved effective for applications requiring ductile cores and wear-resistant surfaces.
