Construction and road infrastructure conservation are considered important for regional development, for it to remain trafficability, the flow of production, access to goods and services as well as transport of goods and people. Considering the inherent difficulties and circumstances relating to the implementation of road infrastructure projects in the Amazon (for example, the "winter Amazon" predominantly occurring in the months from January to June), the "Serra" Inajá "(located on the BR-163 highway, km 195, Santarém-Cuiabá sense) is an obstacle to be overcome in carrying out this work. This study consisted of a geotechnical characterization Rock "Serra do Inajá" in order to obtain results that technically support the execution of construction works / maintenance of the highway, under the responsibility of a Construction Engineering Battalion. We evaluated the main geotechnical properties of samples collected on site, from the crushing and crushing of materials held in the deployment of BEC in the municipality of Rurópolis-PA and subsequent laboratory tests carried out in Santarém-PA. The methodology consisted of crushed rock tests as aggregate for concrete test specimens; general characterization of gabbroic rocks, discussing the correlations between different properties. The results have revealed that the crushed rock, a gabbro, existing in the "Serra do Inajá" at Km 165 of the BR-163 stretch between the city of Santarém and the municipality of Rurópolis after tested as aggregate, attended standard for structural concrete, and its average compressive strength, tested specimens, 26,1 MPa.

Abstract: The specification of concrete projects with greater resistance and stricter quality control arises in Santarém, resulting from a booming construction market. However, the city still lacks specific knowledge of the mechanical properties of locally manufactured concrete, as well as the suitability of this material to the aggregates available in the region. This work aims to conduct a comparative study between the different coarse aggregates available in Santarém, focusing on structural concrete production. Three water/cement ratios (0.74, 0.54, and 0.41) were defined for concrete production, along with the use of three types of coarse aggregates: gravel, pebble, and quebradinho. The concretes were analyzed for their properties in the fresh state (slump, cohesion, and water consumption) and in the hardened state (compressive strength, tensile strength by diametrical compression, tensile strength in bending, and modulus of elasticity). Lower water consumption was observed with the use of pebble, and higher final strengths were achieved for concretes produced with gravel. A comparative analysis of input costs showed the economic advantage of using quebradinho for 20 and 30 MPa concretes. It is concluded that the aggregates available in the Santarém-PA region are viable for concrete production.
