Analysis of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory in a Photographic Paper Finishing Industry in the Manaus City
(Instituto de Tecnologia e Educação Galileo da Amazônia, 2021) MAGALHÃES, Edfran da Cruz SILVA, Simone da; LEITE, Jandecy Cabral
In the Manaus Free Trade Zone, the photographic paper processing industry is classified as a chemical industry and presents environmental aspects in various stages of the production process. This study aims to analyze greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in a photographic paper finishing industry in Manaus, using the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program (PBGHGP) to inventory and estimate total emissions in Scopes 1 and 2. The results indicate that the main source of GHG emissions in the analyzed industry comes from the consumption of refrigerant gas R410A in cooling systems. The study concludes that, with the implementation of an appropriate environmental management system, it is possible to control and mitigate such emissions, reducing the industry's environmental impact.

This article analyzes the role of environmental protection as a guiding principle of public administration in the state of Amazonas, from the perspective of administrative law. To achieve this objective, a literature review and analysis of legal and administrative documents were conducted to understand the relevance of environmental protection in public administration, considering the unique characteristics of the Amazon region. The research emphasizes the importance of administrative law as a legal tool to ensure the effective implementation of environmental policies and compliance with relevant legislation. Additionally, administrative competences related to environmental management, environmental licensing, and administrative and judicial liability for environmental damages were analyzed. The results highlight challenges in implementing public policies for environmental protection in Amazonas, as well as the need to strengthen the performance of government agencies responsible for environmental management. The study concludes that improving legal-administrative mechanisms and adopting integrated approaches are fundamental to sustainable public administration.

Aspect and Impact Survey in Chemistry Laboratory
(Instituto de Tecnologia e Educação Galileo da Amazônia, 2023) SILVA, Waldomiro S.; CAMPOS, Paola Souto
The growing concern with environmental management has led several institutions, including the Federal Institute of Amazonas (IFAM), to consider methodologies related to the Environmental Management System (EMS), such as ISO 14001. This study conducted a survey of environmental aspects and impacts in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory of IFAM – Campus Manaus Centro (CMC), using the interaction matrix and the FMEA method for failure analysis. The results indicated that 90% of the analyzed impacts were classified as significant risks, including failures in the exhaust system and the absence of a Waste Management Plan (WMP). The study recommends implementing a WMP, maintaining exhaust equipment, and training users to mitigate environmental impacts and health risks.

The continuous search for process improvements has led several enterprises, whether in the public or private sector, to insert methodologies linked to environmental management into their management procedures, especially those accredited by ISO 14001 (SGA). IFAM is a public institution made up of a set of 17 camps operating in the area of technical and technological education that needs to adopt a system or program along these lines. To achieve this, it is necessary to diagnose its aspects and impacts, especially those linked to laboratories intended for scientific practices and experiments, including the Organic Chemistry Laboratory (Campus - CMC), the object of this study. To obtain these surveys, we adopted four steps: 1. definition of the study location (Organic Chemistry Laboratory, Campus - CMC); 2. survey of aspects and impacts (interaction matrix method with a modified spreadsheet for this survey); 3. treatment and examination of the collected data; and 4. analysis of failures using the FMEA process method. Therefore, 10 significant impacts were detected after application, with importance ≥ 5. Of these, six were considered high, and four were moderate. Among the significant ones are the failures in the exhaust system that exhausts the suspended material (aerodispersoids) into an environment similar to that of the laboratory; however, the correct option would be for the upper part, with the help of chimneys. Therefore, this lateral environment is frequented daily by students, employees, and outsourced workers who transit or live in this location. It was also noted in the five activities analyzed that the lack of waste management arising from the main processes of this laboratory, for example, inadequate storage and incorrect disposal of this waste, often discarded directly into sinks, when applying the FMEA process method, and based on the spreadsheets (LAAIA), we noticed two important flaws, the first related to the installation of theexhaust system and the second to the absence of the Waste Management Plan or Program (PGR).
