Aspectos Importantes na Utilização de Bombas Centrífugas em Velocidade Variável para a Redução do Consumo de Energia
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2006) MESQUITA, André L. Amarante; SILVA, Lázaro J. S. da; ABRAHAM JÚNIOR, Otávio; PEREIRA, José Almir; R. SILVA, Aldo Cezar P.; BATISTA, Clauderino da Silva
The study examines the use of variable speed centrifugal pumps as a solution to reduce energy consumption in water supply systems. It covers theoretical principles, technological aspects, and economic feasibility, employing frequency inverters to adjust flow according to demand. Two case studies illustrate the method's effectiveness: parallel pump operation and tank level control. Results show significant energy savings with short financial payback, emphasizing the need for technical and economic analysis for implementation.

Implementação de Medidas e Uso de um Software Supervisório na Eficiência Energética de um Sistema de Refrigeração Industrial
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2023) RAABE, Matheus Arthur; SILVA, Pedro Luiz
This paper aims to present the results of implementing a set of energy efficiency measures, supported by a supervisory software, in an industrial refrigeration system installed in a dairy factory. The study involved the collection and analysis of electric energy consumption data, equipment operation, and identification of improvement opportunities. With the implementation of actions such as evaporation temperature control, optimization of compressor operation, and the introduction of maintenance routines, a significant reduction in energy consumption and improvement in system reliability was observed. The results demonstrate the potential for energy and operational gains through the use of automation and supervision technologies in industrial processes.

Análise Exergética no Processo de Aquecimento de Licor Pobre em uma Refinaria de Alumina
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2015) SANTOS, Antonio Marcos Nascimento dos; BATISTA, Clauderino da Silva
This study identifies energy loss points through exergy balances in heat exchangers used to heat spent liquor in the Bayer process for alumina extraction. Energy and exergy balances were performed in exchangers using live steam and regenerative steam, with significant losses identified in exchangers 4 and 5. The exergoeconomic analysis highlighted financial losses, providing a foundation for energy recovery actions and operational cost reduction.

Automação de Recuperadora de Bauxita para Melhoria da Eficiência Energética
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2015) SILVA, Marcelo Siqueira da; JUNIOR, Petrônio Vieira
This study describes the development of automation for a bauxite reclaimer at Hydro Alumina refinery in Barcarena-PA, aiming to improve the machine's energy efficiency. Automation was achieved through the installation of position sensors and the implementation of automatic operation programming, leading to reduced energy costs, lower maintenance demands, and extended equipment lifespan. The return on investment was estimated at less than three years.

Análise Energética do Sistema de Resfriamento de uma Planta de Compressores de Ar Modelo ZH9000
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2015) FREIRE, Wildemar de Aguiar; BRAGA, Eduardo de Magalhães
This study evaluates the cooling system of ZH9000 air compressors in an alumina refinery, addressing overheating and energy inefficiency. The proposed solution involves plate heat exchangers to isolate the water circuit, minimizing contamination and enhancing thermal performance. Findings suggest annual savings of R$600,000 and lower maintenance costs, with a 10-month payback period.

Análise da Eficiência Energética dos Sistemas de Climatização Centralizada: Estudo de Caso no Polo Industrial de Manaus
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2016) WADA, João Koyty Oji; RODRIGUEZ, Jorge Laureano Moya
This dissertation examines the energy efficiency of centralized air conditioning systems in an industry at the Industrial Polo of Manaus (PIM), comparing direct expansion (air) and indirect expansion (water) equipment. The study shows that replacing screw chillers with centrifugal chillers reduces electricity consumption by up to 40%, with a quick return on investment (payback).

BALANÇO DE MASSA E ENERGIA EM CALCINADOR DE LEITO FLUIDIZADO EM UMA REFINARIA DE ALUMINA
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2016) CRUZ, Victor César Ribeiro da; BATISTA, Clauderino da Silva
Calcination is the final step in the alumina production process, where aluminum hydroxide is subjected to high temperatures to remove surface and chemically bound water. This study conducted the mass and energy balance of a calcination unit, evaluating the impact of key control variables on energy efficiency. The results showed that fuel consumption is influenced by cyclone efficiency, furnace temperature, hydrate moisture, and atomization steam flow, identifying opportunities for process improvement.

Análise do Desempenho de uma Unidade de Condicionamento de Ar Suprida por Geração Fotovoltaica
(Instituto de Tecnologia, 2018) SANTOS, Elson Costa dos; MACÊDO, Wilson Negrão
The use of electric energy for ambient air conditioning is one of the great challenges in the search for alternatives for the supply of energy in large consumption centers. The various regions of the world, such as the equatorial ones, are among those that demand a great amount of electrical energy to feed a state of greater importance. The work was a model of air conditioning suprised by photovoltaic generation, with the unit of conditioning of photovoltaic air (UCAFV). The proposed system was investigated using data of ambient temperature and irradiance for two days of the city of Belém, located in the state of Para - Brazil, a locality with climatic characteristics very similar to numerous regions near the equator.
