    Análise Exergética no Processo de Aquecimento de Licor Pobre em uma Refinaria de Alumina

    This study identifies energy loss points through exergy balances in heat exchangers used to heat spent liquor in the Bayer process for alumina extraction. Energy and exergy balances were performed in exchangers using live steam and regenerative steam, with significant losses identified in exchangers 4 and 5. The exergoeconomic analysis highlighted financial losses, providing a foundation for energy recovery actions and operational cost reduction.

    Aplicação do Filtro com Reamostragem por Importância Sequencial (SIR) na Simulação de Dados de Processo de Precipitação: Desenvolvimento de um Aplicativo Computacional para Auxílio na Tomada de Decisão em Refinaria de Alumina

    This study describes the development of a computational application based on mathematical models of mass balance and particle filters to simulate the precipitation process in the Bayer circuit. The goal is to provide a tool to assist process engineers in daily decision-making, enhancing the control of productivity and alumina quality. Simulated results were compared with real plant data, showing average relative errors of 4.7%, validating the model's effectiveness.

    Aplicação da Lógica Fuzzy na Gestão de Manutenção de Falhas de Soldagem SMD em Processos Produtivos Automatizados – Estudo de Caso

    The present study aims to present the use of fuzzy logic to reduce the subjectivity of options and judgments in maintenance management in automated production processes, focusing on the occurrence of welding failures (SMD). For this purpose, an exploratory and descriptive case study was adopted, analyzing data collected between January 2015 and January 2016. The research employed tools such as the Ishikawa Diagram, Pareto Diagram, and Variable Control Chart to highlight the main defects. It was concluded that after system modeling and applying fuzzy logic concepts, there was a significant reduction in failures, greater understanding of phenomena, and effective solutions to avoid recurrences​

    Qualidade da Lavagem Cáustica: Condição Crucial para o Aumento da Disponibilidade do Sistema em uma Planta Bayer

    A lavagem cáustica é fundamental para as rotinas de uma planta Bayer, limpando equipamentos e sistemas de tubulações para garantir a boa operacionalidade do processo. O estudo mostra que a manutenção da temperatura em patamares de 80°C é essencial para um bom controle da concentração cáustica e que a variável tempo de limpeza perde importância se temperatura e concentração cáustica não estiverem nas faixas de controle estabelecidas. Além disso, quando a solução de limpeza é preparada com soda virgem e licor Bayer, a capacidade de dissolução da solução diminui significativamente em temperaturas abaixo de 75°C.

    Tricalcium aluminate hexahydrate (TCA) is a compound used in the Bayer process during green liquor polishing, acting as a filter aid. This study analyzes the formation mechanism of TCA using different liquors, comparing the resulting products to determine the most suitable for filtration. Techniques such as electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were employed to evaluate the microstructure of the formed calcium compounds​

    Simulação da Produção na Precipitação Hydro Alunorte

    The simulator of solids concentration in the production of the precipitation process is based on a model made by mass balances in tanks, where it was necessary to act to boost the level of production in the competitive market. The simulator considers nucleation, growth, breakdown, agglomeration, solubility, and crystallization in precipitators. The model was used to solve a significant problem in the process variable (mass concentration in the precipitation production chain) due to its large variations and losses, thus predicting production behavior throughout the circuit to its final stage. Numerical and laboratory results were obtained and compared, allowing a critical evaluation of this solution methodology.

    Implantação do Sistema de Rejeição de Cargas (SRC) no Sistema Elétrico de Potência (SEP) da Hydro Alunorte

    The study presents the implementation of a Load Rejection System (LRS) at Hydro Alunorte to preserve internal power generation and partial production during external power failures. The LRS, using frequency relays, automatically sheds non-priority loads, ensuring the continuity of utilities (water, steam, and compressed air) and minimizing financial losses. The system was successfully tested in real events, demonstrating its effectiveness.
