    The study compares the environmental impact of a power plant in the Brazilian Amazon when using heavy fuel oil (HFO) engines and natural gas engines. It analyzes emissions of pollutants such as CO, CO₂, NOx, SOx, and particulate matter, noting that gas engines emit less NOx and SOx but more CO and CO₂ per unit of power supplied.

    Projeto e Execução de Ponte Extensionétrica para Medição de Deformação em Próteses de Membros Inferiores

    The project developed an Extensometric Bridge to measure deformations in lower limb prostheses, using strain gauge sensors and a PIC microcontroller. The system converts voltage variations into deformations, displaying the data on an LCD and computer via RS232 serial communication. Simulations were performed in Proteus software, codes were developed in C, and a Delphi program was created for data visualization. The aim was to evaluate the behavior of prostheses under static and dynamic loading, contributing to the validation of their mechanical properties.

    The study examined microstructural factors in the MIG/MAG welding process of 3 mm and 4 mm industrial steel, leading to failures in 500 KVA power transformers. Charpy-V impact tests and microstructural analysis were conducted to correlate microstructure with impact toughness. Results revealed impurities in the weld pool, affecting weld quality and causing leaks of insulating oil.

    Dust exhaustion systems in the aluminum industry – reference data and design methodology definition problems

    The study addresses challenges in designing dust exhaustion systems for the aluminum industry, emphasizing the lack of reference data for specific equipment and process emissions. Methodologies for calculating air flow and pressure drop in exhaust systems are reviewed, with a focus on pneumatic conveying of particulates. The work proposes an improved methodological approach based on hydrodynamic models and presents real-world case studies, such as coke loading/unloading systems and alumina feeding in potlines. Conclusions include recommendations for optimizing system performance.

    Shell and tube heat exchangers are essential components in chemical process industries. This paper proposes a new expression to evaluate their environmental impact, combining the “entransy dissipation” concept — introduced as an alternative to entropy — with Angulo-Brown’s “ecological function.” A multi-objective optimization considering irreversibilities and cost is also conducted, using genetic algorithms as the solving method.

    The article presents a mathematical model developed to evaluate combustion efficiency in thermoelectric power plants operating with natural gas (NG) and alternating with diesel (HFO). The study was conducted in a plant transitioning to dual-fuel use, aiming to optimize energy efficiency and reduce pollutant emissions. The model covers stoichiometric, thermodynamic, and kinetic aspects of combustion, implemented in software for real-time analysis. Results demonstrated the model's feasibility in predicting engine performance and optimizing specific fuel consumption, with practical applications in plant operation.

    Técnicas capazes de usar o oxigênio do ar atmosférico em queimadores industriais

    The study developed an oxy-fuel system using atmospheric air/GLP as an alternative to pure oxygen for aluminum brazing in window-type air conditioners, aiming to reduce industrial costs. An experimental platform was built to measure temperature and brazing time, using thermocouples and real-time data acquisition. The results showed that the system meets the 45-second production cycle, with cost reduction and maintained process quality.

    Use of Dissipative Silencers for Fan Noise Control

A case study illustrates the practical application, achieving a reduction in sound pressure levels to comply with Brazilian regulations.

    Advantages of applying composite material to replace metal alloys in aviation

    Composite materials were used by early agricultural societies and their adoption has been driven by military technological needs. High fuel costs and strict environmental regulations have increased the demand for this technology in the civil sector. This article presents the application advantages of composites in aircraft structures, especially regarding weight reduction, lower operational costs, and environmental, social, and economic impacts. The research includes literature review, experimental studies, and comparisons with traditional metal alloys.
